Water constitutes approximately 60% of the body's weight. Its total content consists of intracellular and extracellular water. This is an extremely important component in the diet, it is essential for the transport of nutrients, and is involved in most biochemical reactions and body temperature regulation.
Did you know that the demand for water is variable and depends on a number of factors, which include, among others, physical activity, ambient temperature and humidity, body weight and the amount of consumed food? It is assumed that the average demand for water is 30 ml/kg of body weight, and fluid intake should be at least 1000-1500 ml per 1000 kcal of energy expenditure (Chabros et al., 2008).
Remember! Loss of water, even at a level of 1% of body weight, results in impairment of the thermoregulation mechanism. Fluids must be replenished constantly. It is worth noting that the warning sign - the feeling of dryness in the mouth, usually occurs after the loss of water is equal to about 3% of the body's weight! A further reduction in water content of 4 % of body weight is associated with a decrease of the body's exercise potential by up to 30%!
Physical effort significantly raises the demand of the body for fluids. Depending, among others, on the type of activity, loss of water together with sweat can amount to as much as 3-4 litres per hour. Accordingly, the daily demand for water is within a very wide range. On average it is approximately 2.2 litres in women. An interesting fact is that in extreme cases it can be as much as 16 litres per day (WHO, 2004)!
L-carnitine is a key element of the last phase of fat breakdown. This compound transports fatty acids and introduces them into burning processes taking place in the mitochondria - it allows the transfer of fatty acids through the inner mitochondrial membrane into the matrix of the energy centre of the cell, where these compounds are broken down. L-carnitine is therefore a compound necessary for the correct oxidation of fatty acids!
A 24-week study was conducted, during which participants received 2 g of L-tartrate L-carnitine twice a day together with 80 g of carbohydrates.
In contrast to the results of the group receiving only carbohydrates, the test group showed:
- a larger share of adipose tissue in the process of generating energy during physical effort at an intensity of 50% VO2 max,
- better energy production at an intensity of 80% VO2 max,
- better physical performance by 11% (Wall et al., 2011).
Hyaluronic acid is a functional and structural component of connective tissue. This compound is a natural biopolymer and an essential component that is part of the extracellular matrix of the dermis. It possesses excellent water-binding properties.
The product includes magnesium, which takes part in maintaining electrolyte balance. In addition, this element is involved in proper energy metabolism, contributes to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue, helps in the proper functioning of the muscles and protein synthesis, contributes to the proper functioning of the nervous system, and is involved in the maintenance of normal psychological function.
